U.S. Army National Guard Soldiers assigned to the 59th Aviation Troop Command, South Carolina National Guard and first responders-rescuers with the South Carolina Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (SC-HART) conduct search and rescue (SAR) training in Pickens, South Carolina, Nov. 4-6, 2025. SC-HART is a collaborative effort between the South Carolina Army National Guard and the South Carolina State Urban Search and Rescue Task Force (SC-TF1), Office of the State Fire Marshal. The South Carolina Army National Guard contributes to the program with instructors, crews, support personnel, and UH-60L Blackhawk and LUH-72B Lakota helicopters. U.S. Soldiers compete in the 228th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade, South Carolina Army National Guard, brigade-level Best Warrior Competition, Nov. 7-8, 2025, at Clarks Hill Training Site in Blum Branch, South Carolina. Soldiers competed against one another in a range of physical, mental, and technical events to determine who will represent the brigade at the state-level competition. U.S. Army Spc. Safe and Beautiful mission at McEntire Joint National Guard Base, South Carolina, Dec. 4, 2025. U.S. Soldiers assigned to 1st Battalion, 178th Field Artillery Regiment, 263rd Army Air Missile Defense Command, South Carolina National Guard, conduct a departure ceremony for their mobilization to Washington D.C. in support of the D.C. Safe and Beautiful mission at McCrady Training Center, Eastover, South Carolina, Dec. 3, 2025. Approximately 300 South Carolina National Guardsmen mobilize to D.C. to assist the Metropolitan Police Department in maintaining public safety for residents, commuters and visitors throughout the District. RALEIGH, N.C. – The South Carolina National Guard's Defensive Cyber Operations Element (DCOE) and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s (SLED) Critical Infrastructure Cyber (SC-CIC) Team recently partnered for Operation Tobacco Road (OTR), a major cyber security exercise held September 8-12. Hosted by the North Carolina Cyber Security Response Force (CSRF), the event took place at the Cyber Emergency Management Division’s Operations Center in Raleigh.

The D.C. Safe and Beautiful mission has brought approximately 2,400 National Guard members together with law enforcement and community partners to enhance public safety and deter crime across the District. South Carolina National Guard troops mobilized to the D.C. area in August and have continued to provide support to the mission while gradually cycling Soldiers back home. While working alongside emergency personnel in the capital and leading the sanitation efforts in our national parks and monuments, S.C. National Guard personnel have also strived to achieve the utmost excellence in physical fitness, weapons qualification, and overall mission readiness.

NEWBERRY, S.C. − Approximately 130 Soldiers of the South Carolina Army National Guard were honored during a deployment ceremony today, at the Eleazer Arena of Newberry College. They are deploying with the 117th Engineer Brigade’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC).

U.S. Army Sgt. Jalen Miller, 4th Battalion, 118th Infantry Regiment, fires on a pistol range at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, on Oct. 9, 2025. Brigadier General Linda J. Riedel of the South Carolina National Guard, who currently serves as assistant adjutant general for the Army, has been selected as the deputy commanding general (DCG) of the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence (CCoE). She is expected to begin this dual-hat role in January 2026.

Georgia National Guard Soldiers took over the Washington, D.C. Safe and Beautiful mission Friday from South Carolina National Guard troops who spent five weeks supporting local and federal agencies in the nation’s capital.

Foster, a former infantry officer, along with other Soldiers of the 4th, spent two weeks training in the sweltering, August heat of Fort Stewart, Ga. They returned home to their families Friday, Aug. 15 only to get the phone call the next morning telling them to report to their armories on Sunday Aug. 17. They’ve been tasked with helping to make Washington D.C. safe and beautiful. This is a story about what it's like being a chaplain on a short-notice mission to the nation's capitol.
