The Type D armory built in Walterboro in 1970 was first assessed by Ward-Brandt Consulting under contract through the SCIAA in 2017. During this survey, the SCIAA noted that no original windows remained intact, but that all replacement windows remained in keeping with character of the original windows. It was also noted at this time the fascias, gutters, and downspouts had also been replaced. Observations of the structure’s exterior also revealed that the installation and removal of AC units overtime had been patched by lighter colored bricks. Despite these changes, Ward-Brandt Consulting determined that the structure maintained a moderate degree of architectural integrity. In considering the building’s eligibility for listing on the NRHP, the SCARNG determined that the building was only eligible for listing on the NRHP under Criteria A.
