U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to the 59th Aviation Troop Command (ATC), South Carolina National Guard, prepare to respond to a possible winter weather emergency in Upstate, South Carolina. Following a state of emergency declaration, and consequent state active-duty mobilization, the Soldiers mustered at the South Carolina Army National Guard Readiness Center in Greenville, South Carolina, Jan. 23, 2026. The Soldiers will be organized in vehicle recovery teams (VRTs) and prepositioned at critical locations along the main highways in the Upstate during the winter weather event expected for January 24-26, 2026. On August 28, 2025, Binninger and a friend were dining when they observed a man urgently patting his wife’s back.

U.S. Army National Guard Soldiers assigned to the 59th Aviation Troop Command, South Carolina National Guard and first responders-rescuers with the South Carolina Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (SC-HART) conduct search and rescue (SAR) training in Pickens, South Carolina, Nov. 4-6, 2025. SC-HART is a collaborative effort between the South Carolina Army National Guard and the South Carolina State Urban Search and Rescue Task Force (SC-TF1), Office of the State Fire Marshal. The South Carolina Army National Guard contributes to the program with instructors, crews, support personnel, and UH-60L Blackhawk and LUH-72B Lakota helicopters. RALEIGH, N.C. – The South Carolina National Guard's Defensive Cyber Operations Element (DCOE) and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s (SLED) Critical Infrastructure Cyber (SC-CIC) Team recently partnered for Operation Tobacco Road (OTR), a major cyber security exercise held September 8-12. Hosted by the North Carolina Cyber Security Response Force (CSRF), the event took place at the Cyber Emergency Management Division’s Operations Center in Raleigh.
